In 2017, Loch Lomond's owner signed a promotion agreement for its products in the expanding Chinese market; in June 2019, Loch Lomond's ties with China deepened further. Exponent Equity, the private equity fund that has been managing Loch Lomond Group (Loch Lomond Distillery's parent company) since 2014, announced it had sold the company to China's Hillhouse Capital for approximately $500 million to $550 million. Loch Lomond Distillery's equipment is extraordinary. When built in 1966, it was installed with a pair of straight neck stills. In 1990, another pair of stills was added. Four years later, a grain distillery was launched. In 1998, a pair of traditional pot stills was installed; in 2007, a single grain Coffey still was added, later supplemented by a third pair of straight neck stills. Now, the distillery boasts 13 stills of four completely different types! Of the 5 million liters of malt whisky produced annually at Loch Lomond Distillery, 3.5 million liters are distilled in Coffey stills for the popular Loch Lomond Single Grain Whisky (actually single malt, but not recognized as such by the SWA because no pot stills are used). Whiskies under the Loch Lomond brand have their spirit distilled in traditional stills and are blended with whisky distilled in straight neck stills before bottling. The Inchmurrin brand whisky comes from straight neck stills. Also from straight neck stills are the heavily peated Inchmoan brand whisky, and other brands not heavily promoted in official packaging (Inchfad, Glen Douglas, Craiglodge, and Croftengea). Other equipment includes a 9.5-ton full lauter mash tun, 10 stainless steel fermentation tanks (fermentation time 92-160 hours) dedicated to malt whisky processing. Additionally, there are 18 pieces of equipment dedicated to grain whisky processing. Regular releases include three brands: Loch Lomond, comprising Classic, Original, 10-year, 12-year, and 18-year expressions; Inchmurrin, with 12-year, 18-year whiskies and a Madeira wine cask finish; and Inchmoan 12-year and 1992 vintage. Duty-free products include Loch Lomond Single Grain, Signature blended Scotch, 12-year single malt, plus Inchmurrin Madeira cask finish, 10-year single cask, and 10-year Inchmoan. Limited editions include Loch Lomond The Open Special Edition (British Open Golf Championship) and a 50-year-old expression.

Took a sip and got a whiff of fresh oak, then a touch of fish oil and a little sawdust at the back. There’s a hint of curry and sweet mustard, with bags of fruit and vegetable peelings and a splash of green walnut liqueur. Finishes medium, kinda like earl grey tea mixed with yoghurt and a bit of bergamot – very intriguing, worth checking out. 😊

Hada dram today that smelled like engine grease and a whisper of earl grey, with fresh oak and a little sawdust bite. A curious yoghurt‑sour fruit note popped up, alongside green walnut liqueur and a dash of chutneys. The colour was light gold, quite modern style, and the medium finish felt like funny juice with a touch of fish oil. All in all a bit of a matter of taste, but definitely fun stuff to sip on. 😊

Nose is all light gold, with a hint of earl grey and bergamots upfront—proper tea-like, but then there’s this funny juice vibe, like sour fruits and bananas dancing with a touch of curry and green walnut liqueur. Sweet mustard and vanilla come through, but not in a bad way. Palate’s fresh oak and cardon paper, with bags of fruit and vegetable peelings, maybe a bit of yoghurt. Some off notes linger, but overall it’s very intriguing. Medium finish, no greasiness, just a bit of engine grease and paraffin in the background. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into something with a bit of fun stuff and chutneys. Matter of taste, but I’m curious about Loch Lomonds now.

Poured a dram of this one – colour's a light, clean gold. Nosing it, got this interesting hit of fresh oak and green walnut liqueur, which is quite intriguing. There’s a little sawdust and something like fresh-pruned privets in there too. On the palate, wow, that's where it gets fun. It's like walking through a market with bags of fruit and vegetable peelings – apples, pears, citrus. Then some sour fruits kick in, alongside a surprising touch of fish oil and engine grease. Don't worry, it works! There's a soft yellow pepper note and a funny, sweet mustard thing going on. It finishes medium, with a whisper of vanilla and a rather curry-like warmth. No greasiness, which is a plus. Honestly, a bit of a funny juice, very modern style. Definitely worth checking out if you like complex, re-racked drams with a bit of character. 🤔 It's a real matter of taste, but I enjoyed the chutneys and bergamot undertones.

Gave this one a go last night. Pours a lovely light gold, looks quite inviting in the glass actually. First whiff you get this earl grey tea thing, mixed with a bit of vanilla and something yoghurty – sounds odd but it works. Then there's a touch of that fresh oak, almost like fresh-pruned privets in the garden after rain. Quite modern style this one, definitely feels re-racked. On the palate, bit of soft yellow pepper, a little mustard warmth creeping in. Some funny juice going on – not bad funny, just... intriguing? Got hints of that engine grease note some of these drams have, plus this cardon paper thing in the background. Weirdly there's a tiny touch of fish oil but honestly it adds character rather than putting you off 🤷 Finish brings out the box trees and maybe some curry spice? A few off notes here and there but nothing major, really just fun stuff to pick apart. Overall it's very intriguing, definitely worth a second pour. Bags of fruit and vegetable peelings type vibe. As with all these things, bit of a matter of taste init? But I quite enjoyed it 😊
